TRANQUIL HOUSE
Originally built in 1900, Tranquil House is a classic Federation home with strong architectural integrity, but was in desperate need of a thoughtful revival to suit contemporary living.
Rather than expanding, we focused on reworking the existing footprint, refining the layout, adding a second bathroom, and improving functionality and flow throughout. The design intent was to create a sanctuary: a place to retreat, unwind, and feel at home, while still being within walking distance of some of Hobart’s best bars and restaurants.
Materiality played a central role. Textural surfaces, natural stone, and soft curves evoke calm and comfort, balancing the home’s heritage with a more contemporary rhythm. Careful planning ensured natural light now floods into once-dark rooms, and modern amenities are seamlessly integrated with period details. A space that has a link to its roots, with an eye to the future.
Tranquil House now offers that rare feeling of being somewhere far away, while still feeling unmistakably like home.
